Depression - When life is not as colourful as it was before
Depression is more common than many believe - about a third of the population develop a depression at some point in their lives. At the same time, depression cannot be compared to everyday discomfort such as an everyday “feeling sad”.
How does depression express?
Depression can manifest itself in different ways, depending on the individual. Changes in mood and joy of live are characteristic:
Dejection to the emotion of no longer feeling anything at all, as if someone had “turned the colour off”.
You increasingly don’t care about events around, so it takes a lot of energy to get up for everyday activities or to enjoy things that used to be fun.
Effects of depression
If mood and joy of life are not intact for a long time, vital functions such as sleep, appetite and libido also suffer. Those affected often also feel physically bad.
The energy is also not sufficient for concentration and memory. Workplace difficulties are often the result.
Those affected often withdraw because the feeling of lack of interest and listlessness does not stop at partners, family or close friends or because the get-together costs too much strength.
Thoughts often revolve around one's own mistakes, the life situation often seems hopeless and unchangeable, so that life-tired thoughts * can arise.
